Eggnog goes back to the thirteenth century when eggs, milk and sherry were all expensive<\/a> ingredients that only the wealthiest people enjoyed. Eggnog was the drink of the rich and only enjoyed by the lower class on special occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eggnog became known as a Christmas drink when American colonists were able to get milk and eggs much easier. Rum was also widely available and became part of the classic nog recipe. Here is how we put our eggnog mocktail recipe together:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Add all of the ingredients, except the whole cloves, to a blender<\/a> and puree until very smooth.<\/li>
  2. Pour the mix into a pot and add the whole cloves.<\/li>
  3. Heat the mix over medium heat, stirring constantly so the eggs do not cook or curdle in the hot milk.<\/li>
  4. Do not let the milk come to a boil or the eggs will cook. Then you will have little pieces of egg in your drink. Stirring constantly and heating just over medium heat (no higher) is key.<\/li>
  5. The mix will begin to thicken after about 5-6 minutes.<\/li>
  6. Once thick, remove the pot from the stove and pour it through a strainer into a bowl or pitcher.<\/li>
  7. Chill the eggnog until you are ready to enjoy it.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
