Insanely Good, Homemade Blood Orange Spritzer
Blood oranges are the classiest kind of orange out there. They look simple and regular on the outside, just like any other orange, but when you cut into a blood orange, the color is so vibrant and beautiful that you may be shocked. It is that pretty, juicy red that gives these oranges their name.

Are Blood Oranges Healthy?
The red pigment in blood oranges is actually an antioxidant called anthocyanin. These antioxidants have been shown to help your body reduce cell damage and decrease the risk of cancer. Pretty amazing for a little fruit! They say that the brightest colored fruits have the most antioxidants and boy are blood oranges bright!
Do Blood Oranges Taste Good?
Blood oranges also have a much sweeter taste that a regular orange. They actually have a slight raspberry flavor that you may notice right away.
That is another reason we love using them to make this blood orange spritzer recipe. The sweet taste paired with the amazing color along with those lucky health benefits makes this refreshing drink just incredible!
What’s in a Blood Orange Spritzer?
Our fresh blood orange spritzer is quick and easy to make. It also has pretty simple ingredients so you can have a tasty, non-alcoholic drink ready to enjoy in just a few minutes. Here is what we use to make our blood orange spritzer:
Fresh Blood Orange Juice- But whole blood oranges and squeeze the juice with a citrus juicer. Blood oranges happen to be one of the juiciest citrus fruits and will give you about ⅓ of a cup of juice per orange. For this recipe, you will need about 3 whole blood oranges to get the juice you need.
If you do not have blood oranges on hand or if they are not in season, you can use regular oranges in their place. However, we strongly recommend using fresh oranges rather than orange juice from a carton. The taste is incomparable!
Fresh Lime Juice- This adds a nice tang to the spritzer and helps bring out the orange flavor.
Orange Bitters- Orange bitters is a classic cocktail flavoring made with oranges, cardamom, caraway seeds, coriander, anise and burnt sugar. Some bitters contain a small amount of alcohol (similar in quantity to that in vanilla extract) so you may want to look for a non alcoholic bitters.
Sea Salt- Enhances the flavor of the drink
Rosemary Sprig- Makes a beautiful garnish and adds a hint of herby flavor to the drink.
Brown Sugar- Gives the blood orange mocktail a rich, sweet taste
Seltzer- Gives the spritzer it’s fizz! You can replace the seltzer with club soda or sparkling water, using the same quantities as directed in the recipe.
How to make Blood Orange Spritzer?
Our delicious spritzer is alcohol free. However, if you decide to make an alcoholic version of this drink, it is very easy to do. Simply replace the seltzer with sparkling wine to make a white wine spritzer. Orange spritzers are incredible with or without alcohol!
So, are you ready to take a sip of this amazing, fresh, flavorful spritzer? We know the recipe says two servings but you may be tempted to drink both glasses yourself. Why not simply double the recipe from the start so you have some extra blood orange spritzer on hand? Seems like a good idea. Enjoy
