Mango slushy: a little bit of heat makes this tropical drink totally irresistible!

We love a sweet slushy drink. But you want to know what is even better than a plain, sugary smoothie? One that has a little bit of a hot kick to it. A sweet and spicy smoothie is even better!
Of course, not all slushies taste good when they are spicy. I’m not so sure I want a spicy strawberry smoothie and a spicy coffee slushy sounds a little strange. We wanted to add some heat to a smoothie that would taste good with the spice.
We immediately thought of mango and how tasty spicy, zesty mango can be. A sweet, spicy mango slushy sounds amazing.

How to Make a Slushy Spicy
It doesn’t take much to take a smoothie from boring to spicy. In fact, you really need just one secret ingredient to transform your drink. That ingredient is a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Adding cayenne pepper to your slushy really makes it soooo much better. You may be surprised how much a little cayenne pepper brings out the great flavor of the mango in the drink. You will also be surprised at how much of an impact that tiny bit of cayenne can have on the drink.
Adding cayenne isn’t all about flavor, it is also a great, nutritionally beneficial ingredient. The capsaicin in cayenne pepper has been shown to have metabolism boosting ingredients that can help you lose weight.
Cayenne pepper can also reduce hunger, helping you lower your overall calorie intake that way as well.
Cayenne can lower blood pressure, can help relieve pain and can even reduce your risk of cancer. Sounds like an ingredient that you need to have in your diet for sure! So why not blend it into your slushy? Seems like a good plan to us!
Ingredients in a Mango Slushy
While the flavors in our mango slushy may be complex, the ingredients are actually quite simple. Here is what you need to make a perfect mango slushy:
- Chopped Frozen Mango
- Coconut Water
- Lime Juice
- Vanilla Extract
- Cayenne Pepper
- Ice

Each one of these ingredients plays a big role in our mango slushy. Let us tell you a little bit about why you need each one in your slushy.
Chopped Frozen Mango- Choose a ripe mango, peel and freeze it in a zippered freezer bag. Freezing your own mango will ensure that you pick the ripest, sweetest fruit possible. Store bought mango will work just fine and is also convenient. It just may not be quite as sweet.
Coconut Water- We love the tropical taste of coconut water. It really compliments the mango flavor of the drink. You can also use orange juice, apple juice or even pineapple juice to make this slushy. Stick with the fruit juices. Using milks will take this slushy into the “smoothie” category.
Lime Juice- This recipe has a lot of fresh lime juice- we know! However, that bright tangy flavor is what we were going for. The mango is so sweet that the sour lime juice is the perfect complimentary flavor. Lime juice is also quite healthy, containing lots of vitamin C and antioxidants.
Vanilla Extract- Vanilla brings out the natural sweetness of the drink. It also adds a warm flavor that is a god contrast to all the other bright flavors.
Cayenne Pepper- Here is our secret spice! Cayenne is our favorite spicy pepper to add but ground chili powder will work as well.
Blend these six ingredients together to make a fantastic slushy. Its pretty easy to make so there’s no reason why you can’t go whip it up right now!
Difference Between a Smoothie and a Slushy
Ever wondered what the difference between a smoothie and a slushy is? We sure have! Smoothies are usually thicker and creamier. A smoothie often has milk, yogurt or ice cream added to the recipe. Slushies, on the other hand, are made with juices and ice. Slushies are thinner and easier to drink.
This recipe is definitely a mango slushy rather than a mango smoothie. That icy texture and fruit juice makes that clear!
Homemade Mango Cayenne Slushy
