Get swept up in the flavors of summer with this tasty mocktail.
There are a few drinks that epitomize summer. Fresh lemonade, ice tea, margaritas and mojitos all come to mind when thinking about summer. However, a tasty Sex on the Beach cocktail is also right up there on the list of summer must have drinks. It is refreshing, fruity and looks just like a summer sunset in a glass.
Of course, we don’t want just any old Sex on The Beach cocktail. We want one that has no alcohol, something everyone can enjoy. We want a virgin Sex on the Beach! So, we created one!
summer must have drink
We took the classic flavors of the Sex on the Beach cocktail, removed all the alcohol and then added our own special twist. It is a drink that we know you will love. It will likely be your go-to summer drink. We know we have been making them non-stop!
The original Sex on the Beach cocktail was created at a bar in Florida. The bartenders were challenged to sell as much peach schnapps as possible to promote the new spirit.
A man named Ted Pizio won the challenge by creating a fruity cocktail and naming it after the reason people visited the area- for sex on the beach! The drink was an instant hit and quickly spread across the country.
The classic cocktail is made using orange juice, cranberry juice, peach schnapps, vodka and cherry grenadine syrup. For our virgin version, we immediately eliminated the vodka. Without the vodka, the drink is much fruitier and more potent.
There is really no need to replace or substitute a new ingredient when removing the vodka as it doesn’t add much to the drink in terms of flavor. So goodbye vodka! No one will miss you!
We did want to replace the peach schnapps with something equally peachy. Peach nectar is the perfect fit. Peach nectar is sweetened peach puree. You can find peach nectar in the grocery store along with other tropical bottled juices. You can also opt to make your own peach nectar.
Peel and pit two peaches then add them to a blender along with 1 tablespoon of honey, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, a pinch of salt and 1 cup of water. Puree until very smooth and then use your nectar to make this perfect drink! Homemade peach nectar will keep in the fridge for about two weeks when covered and kept cool.
We like how this delicious mocktail looks when all of the ingredients are poured into the glass in layers. The colors bleed together and really do look like a summer sunset.
You can also try adding all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shaking them up and then pouring them into a martini glass. This will give the drink a fancy presentation and give your guests a fun little show as you shake up some tasty drinks.
Drinking mocktails has never been so fun! Enjoy.
