Unlike ceremonial matcha which is a little grassy and fine, culinary matcha is bold and strong. It also has a slight bitter taste that is great for making foods and drinks.

You want the strong matcha taste to shine through, not get hidden. Culinary matcha should be easy to find in most specialty stores or online. Stock up, because you’ll be making this drink all the time!

Fresh mint and fresh lime are also essential to the flavor of this delicious drink. Add a few more mint leaves to the muddler if you want a stronger mint flavor. Squeeze in the juice from two limes to bring out that great citrus taste.

The color green has never looked or tasted so good

Ingredients

4 ounces hot water
¼ tsp matcha powder
3 Tbsp brown sugar
1 lime, juiced
20 mint leaves
1 cup club soda
Ice
Lime wedges and extra mint for garnish

Directions

In a small bowl, whisk together the hot water and matcha powder until smooth. The matcha should completely dissolve. Set aside to cool.
Add the brown sugar and mint leaves to a cocktail shaker and muddle together, crushing the mix leaves as you mix.
Squeeze the lime juice into the cocktail shaker with the mint then toss the juiced lime in the shaker as well.
Add the matcha powder and water to the shaker and fill with ice.
Cover the cocktail shaker and shake hard for about 20 seconds.
Add crushed ice to two large glasses and strain the matcha mix into each glass.
Top each drink with club soda then garnish with lime wedges and extra fresh mint leaves. Enjoy cold.

• If you do not want to use club soda, top each drink with a little extra water or some lime seltzer
