A healthy and flavorful way to get an afternoon burst of energy!

I am a big coffee lover but sometimes I want something a little different. A cup of coffee doesn’t always hit the spot. This is especially true in the afternoon when I want a little caffeine to wake me up but I also want something with a whole lot of flavor. That is when I turn to Iced Matcha Latte.

Matcha is a kind of green tea. It is actually grown a little differently than other teas to make it healthier than the normal tea leaves. Matcha plants are covered for the last 30 days of the growing season. This increases chlorophyll production in the plants, gives them more amino acids and also makes them a deep, bright green color. That green is matcha’s signature look!

Matcha has lots of natural antioxidants, even more than are normally found in a green tea. Drinking iced matcha latte can also help promote weight loss, improve heart health and help protect the liver from free radicals. Seems like a pretty powerful tea!

Matcha tea lattes also just taste really great. They are caffeinated and alcohol free so they are perfect for any time of day! Add a touch of honey to make your latte sweeter or a little grated ginger to spice things up. This is going to be your new, go-to afternoon drink! Enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 3 tsp matcha powder

  • 2 Tbsp hot water

  • 1 cup warm water

  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

  • Ice

  • 2 cups almond milk

Directions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the matcha powder with the hot water. The mix should form a paste. Slowly whisk in the remaining cup of warm water, whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
  • Add the vanilla extract then place the mix in the fridge for about 30 minutes to chill.
  • Fill four glasses with ice and then add ½ cup matcha mix to each glass. Top each up with ½ cup almond milk and serve.

Tips and Tricks

  • • You can make the matcha mix in advance, keeping it in the fridge for up to two weeks. Anytime you’d like a latte just pour the match over ice and add milk!
