Parisian hot chocolate varies from regular hot chocolate in its decadence. It is more rich, more chocolatey and more incredible than any other hot chocolate out there. Making drinking chocolate using whole milk and cream is one reason why this hot cocoa is so rich. The delicious fats in the milk make it thick and creamy. Dark chocolate is also a culprit in the opulence of this drink. Try to use a high end, very dark chocolate if possible. We like to use chocolate that is labeled as 70% cocoa or higher. The higher the cocoa percent, the more chocolate taste your coco will have!

Espresso powder and vanilla extract are added in to help make the cocoa taste even more rich. Both ingredients highlight the chocolate, making it more flavorful. If you don’t have vanilla or espresso powder, you can skip them both and your Parisian hot drink will still be fantastic- we promise!

This fantastic drink recipe is the perfect example of a non-alcoholic drink that will instantly put a smile on your face. Enjoy a warm cup on a cold night and you will instantly feel comforted and happy. Enjoy!

minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups whole milk

  • ½ cup heavy cream

  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp instant espresso powder

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips

  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup

  • Whipped cream (for garnish)

Directions

  • Combine the milk and heavy cream in a small pot and bring to a simmer over medium high heat.
  • Place the chocolate, espresso powder, vanilla and maple syrup in a medium sized bowl.
  • Once the milk simmers, pour it directly into the bowl with the chocolate.
  • Whisk the chocolate and milk together slowly. The chocolate will begin to melt and mix into the hot milk.
  • Once the chocolate has all melted and the hot cocoa is perfectly smooth, divide into four small mugs and top with whipped cream.

Tips and Tricks

  • • You can use any kind of milk in place of whole milk. Just keep in mind that a lower fat milk will make the hot chocolate less rich.
    • This recipe makes four smaller mugs of cocoa but since it is so rich, this is plenty! If you need extra, make two large mugs instead.
  • Tools:
    • Measuring Cup
    • Tablespoon
    • Small pot
    • Medium bowl
