Homemade grape soda is the adult way to enjoy grape juice.
Grape juice is often thought of as a kids drink. It is true that a lot of kids enjoy grape juice. You can find grape juice boxes in almost every grocery store! However, grape juice is not just for kids. Adults love grape juice too! This homemade grape juice recipe is the perfect way to make that classic juice into something a little more adult friendly.
What are Concord Grapes?
There are lots of different varieties of grapes out there. In fact, there are over a thousand known grape varieties in the world. Yet each type of grape is god for different things. Sweeter grapes are good for eating plain while big plump grapes are great for juicing.
Our recipe uses concord grape juice to make homemade grape soda. Concord grapes are a little different than regular table grapes because they have something called a slip skin. The skin pops right off of the pale grape flesh and makes it hard to keep the grapes fresh in the grocery store. This is why it may be hard to find fresh concord grapes.
However, concord grapes are great for making juice. They are high in antioxidants and actually richer than regular table grapes. This makes them perfect for our homemade soda. We want grapes that have extra flavor!
Ingredients in Homemade Grape Soda
Making our homemade grape soda recipe is super simple. Here are the ingredients you will need
Concord Grape Juice- Use white grape juice if needed but try to stick with unsweetened grape juices.
Lemon Sparkling Water- The lemon flavor will help enhance the overall taste of the soda. You can use plain sparkling water with 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice as well.
Honey- Honey is a natural way to sweeten your drink. It has a rich taste and gives the homemade soda just the right amount of sweetness. Use maple syrup or agave syrup in place of honey if needed. All of these natural sweetening options will work well.
Ice- We like our homemade grape soda to be nice and cold. You can skip the ice for a more intense flavor. Just make sure the grape juice and sparkling water are cold.
There a good chance you already have all of these ingredients at home. You can start making your soda right away! If not, your local grocery store probably carries everything you need. The ingredients you need are not too crazy and should not be too expensive!
How to Make Grape Soda
Once you have all the ingredients you need, all you need to do is mix! Stir the honey and grape juice together in a small bowl first so the honey dissolves completely. Heat the honey in the microwave for about 10 seconds to make it liquid. This will help it dissolve faster.
Add the sparkling water right before you are ready to serve the grape soda. You want the soda to be as fizzy as possible. Carbonated sparkling water will fall flat the longer it sits. Drink right away!
This homemade grape soda is a simple yet tasty way to take your childhood love of grape juice to the next level. It is so quick and easy to make that you can have it anytime! One sip and you will feel like a kid again…but a sophisticated, sparkling water-drinking kid. Enjoy!
