There are many reasons why you should love almonds milk. To begin, almond milk is a fantastic non-dairy option for anyone who may be lactose intolerant. Almond milk is also very healthy and can add vitamins and minerals to any meal. It also has a very sweet, nutty taste that is quite enjoyable to drink straight from a glass!

If you have had almond milk from the carton before, then you are probably already hooked. But, once you try homemade almonds milk, you will be totally in love with this delicious drink. It isn’t hard to make almond milk at all, you just need to have the right tools. A high speed blender and a nut milk bag are essentials.

All of the ingredients get pureed in the blender until smooth. The mix will be very thick and creamy, not quite the texture of milk that you are looking for. However, once you strain the puree, you will have a beautiful, smooth glass of milk worth swooning over. Nut milk bags are great for straining the mix as they are made from very fine mesh. You want the liquid to be able to go through the bag but all the thick pulp to stay inside. Cheese cloth or even a very thin dish towel will work too. If you only have a mesh strainer, this will suffice but some of the nut pulp may get into your almond milk. It will still taste great, it will just be slightly thicker.

Once you have made homemade almond milk once, you will never go back to that store bought stuff. And why would you?! It is easy to make and it tastes so, so much better!

  • 2 cups boiling water

  • 5 cups water

  • 1/8 tsp sea salt

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 whole dates

  • Place the softened almonds, 5 cups water, salt, vanilla and dates in a blender and puree until very smooth. It may take 1-2 minutes of blending to really make a nice smooth mix.
  • Pour the mix into a nut milk bag or cheese cloth bag and strain, squeezing the pulp as much as possible through the mesh in order to extract all the liquid.
  • Discard the pulp and then enjoy the milk chilled!

Tips and Tricks

  • • Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder to the almond milk for a chocolate milk version.
    • Store the milk in the fridge for up to 5 days. Be sure to shake or stir the milk before enjoying as it will separate slightly.
