    • Rich in Nutrients- Avocados are packed with vitamins C, E, K and B6.
    • Healthy Fats- Avocados are full of healthy fats. They make you feel full in between meals and will even help slow the breakdown of carbohydrates which keeps your blood sugar levels stable.
    • Heart Healthy- Avocados are full of a plant sterol called beta sitosterol. This helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels which is very important for heart health.
    • Improve Fetal Health- One avocado has about 160 micrograms of folate, an important nutrient for fetal health.
    • Lower risk of depression- Folate has also been shown to lower the risk of depression by improving circulation of nutrients to the brain.
    • Improve Digestion- The high levels of fiber in avocados helps improve digestion, reduce constipation and even help prevent colon cancer.

    Now that you are probably thinking you need more avocados in your diet, you may be wondering what you need to make a tasty avocado smoothie. You will need more than just an avocado in a blender! Here are the ingredient you need to make a avocado smoothie:

    • Avocado- A ripe avocado is the key to this recipe. Ripe avocados are sweeter and more flavorful than unripe fruit. Since avocado is the main ingredient in this recipe, you want to be sure you have the tastiest avocados possible.
    • Coconut Milk- We like to use coconut milk since it is dairy free. It also has a nice tropical flavor that goes well with avocado. Coconut milk is a little thinner than regular whole milk which helps with the texture of the drink. Avocado will make the drink nice and thick so a heavy milk is not necessary.
    • Vanilla- Vanilla is always a good addition to a smoothie. It enhances the flavor of the drink and makes it subtly sweeter.
    • Salt- Just like vanilla, salt increases the flavor of a smoothie. It is kind of like a secret ingredient that can transform a drink from basic to incredible. Just remember that a tiny bit will work- you don’t want an overly salty drink!
    • Maple Syrup- Avocado smoothies need to be sweetened. You want your drink to be pleasurable and tasty and since avocado is not naturally sweet, you have to add some sugar in! We use maple syrup which has a rich, luxurious taste. It is also completely natural and vegan just in case you are looking for a vegan avocado smoothie recipe!
    • Ice- Ice not only chills our smoothie, but it also makes it thick and creamy.

    We recommend having these ingredients on hand at all times- you are going to want to make this smoothie as often as possible! You should at least have a few avocados in your kitchen, ripening on the counter, getting ready to be used at a moment's notice.

    Smoothies are so easy. Just another reason why we love them so much. It takes a matter of minutes to make a smoothie. Seconds, even. All you need to do it:

    1. Remove the skin from your avocado and discard the pit. Scoop the avocado into a blender.
    2. Add all the remaining ingredients into the blender and puree.
    3. Let the blender run for at least a minute to really crush the ice and make the smoothie extra creamy.
    4. Pour the smoothie into two tall glasses and enjoy!

    Ingredients

    • 1 ripe avocado

    • 3 cups coconut milk, cold

    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

    • ¼ tsp salt

    • ¼ cup maple syrup

    • 1 cup ice

    Directions

    • Add all of the ingredients to a blender and puree until smooth.
    • Pour into two glasses and enjoy cold.

    Tips and Tricks

    • • Make sure your avocado is ripe. Ripe avocados will give a little when squeezed. The pit will also pop out easily and the flesh will scoop away from the avocado skin nicely as well.
      • Use any kind of milk to make this recipe. We like the tropical taste of coconut milk but skim milk, 2% milk, almond milk or soy milk will all work great.
