Calling all bubble tea fans! We have an amazing new drink for you! Most bubble teas are fruity and light but our new chocolate bubble tea is rich and sweet. It is unlike any bubble tea you have ever had before!

    Chocolate Bubble Tea Milk Recipe

Give our chocolate bubble tea recipe a try next time you are craving rich chocolate but also need a cool, tasty drink. One sip and you will be hooked! Take a look and see what you need to make our yummy chocolate milk tea.

    What is Bubble Tea?

Bubble tea was first created in Taiwan in the 1970’s but gained popularity around the world in the early 21st century. Classic bubble tea is a drink made with tea, sweetened milk and tapioca pearls called boba. The brewed tea is chilled and lightened with milk. Cooked tapioca pearls are added to the mix, sinking to the bottom of the glass and adding a unique flavor and texture to the drink.

Bubble tea is typically served with a large straw big enough to allow the tapioca pearls to pop up from the glass into your mouth. There are tons of ways to flavor bubble tea, giving the drink endless possibilities. The type of tea can be changed, the milk can be switched, flavorings can be added to the drink and even the tapioca can be sweetened and tweaked. Bubble tea is a great, refreshing drink that will keep you excited!

    How to Make Boba

Boba is another name for the tapioca pearls that are used to make bubble tea. The large, chewy pearls are made from tapioca starch or cassava starch. They are very hard when dry but become soft and chewy once cooked.

Boba pearls must be cooked before being added to bubble tea. Here is how to cook boba:

    1. Add about ½ cup of uncooked boba pearls to a small saucepan.
    2. Pour in 1 cups of water and ¼ cup sugar.
    3. Bring the mix to a boil then lower the heat to a simmer. Simmer the boba for 15 minutes.
    4. Remove the pan from the heat and let the boba sit for another 15 minutes.
    5. Chill the cooked tapioca pearls and then use them in our chocolate milk tea!

Once cooked, boba will only keep for about three days when stored in an airtight container in the fridge. After this, the pearls start to break down and fall apart. Store them in the cooking syrup to keep them hydrated and fresh.

    How to Freeze Boba

Boba does not keep very long in the fridge. This can be a challenge since making fresh boba can take a while. You may not have time to boil tapioca pearls every time you crave a chocolate bubble tea!

Luckily, you can easily freeze your cooked boba. This will help store it for longer and give you a nice, cooked supply of bubble tea pearls, ready to use anytime you’d like!

    • Place the cooked boba in a plastic, zippered freezer bag. Squeeze any extra air out of the bag before sealing tightly.
    • Freeze the boba for up to three months.
    • Anytime you need to make chocolate bubble tea, take out the frozen boba and run the bag under warm water to loosen and thaw the tapioca pearls.
    • Use them in your bubble tea and enjoy!

We like to freeze boba in individual portion bags. Anytime you need a bubble tea, take out a single serving bag and you have exactly the amount of boba you need!

How to Make Chocolate Milk Bubble Tea

We love the unique texture of bubble tea. Those tapioca pearls are unlike anything else in the non alcoholic drink world! We also really love chocolate. So, we decided to combine the two loves and make chocolate bubble tea.

Chocolate bubble tea is essentially chocolate milk with boba pearls added into the glass. It is very simple to make and only takes about 2 minutes from start to finish. Here is what you need to do to make chocolate milk tea:

    1. Whisk together cocoa powder, milk and vanilla extract.
    2. Add the cooked boba pearls.
    3. Enjoy!

This is such a simple recipe to make and gives you a big, dessert-like glass of chocolate tea you won’t be able to resist.

Does Bubble Tea Really Contain Tea?

Many flavors of bubble tea are made with real tea. The original bubble tea drinks were made with white tea and boba as the base. However, bubble tea has evolved greatly and no longer necessarily has real tea in each mix.

Our chocolate bubble tea does not have any tea or caffeine. It is essentially a chocolate milk mix with boba added in. This is great for someone looking for a caffeine free drink! Our chocolate milk tea is more like a dessert in a glass than a cup of refreshing iced tea.

What Are the Most Popular Bubble Tea Flavors?

There are so many different flavors of bubble tea in the world that it is hard to pinpoint which are the most popular. Here are a few types of bubble tea that we love and think you will enjoy too:

    • Passion Fruit
