According to various sources, there is no evidence that alcohol affects the effectiveness of the Covid 19 vaccination. However, it is recommended to drink only in small amounts, if at all, or preferably not at all. If too much alcohol is drunk before the vaccine is administered, the body is busy breaking it down – and not building up antibodies after getting the COVID-19 Vaccine.

To be on the safe side: It is better to avoid alcohol

However, the exact effects of alcohol on the effectiveness of vaccines also depend on which vaccine is received. For example, according to studies, injections against hepatitis A and hepatitis B work similarly well as in sober vaccinated subjects despite heavy alcohol consumption. However, alcohol can reduce the effect of a pneumococcal vaccination: In one study, the immune systems of alcoholics produced fewer antibodies than those of healthy people.

Since the Covid-19 vaccination is relatively new, there are not yet sufficient data on how the reactions to alcohol. Therefore, the recommendation is: drink as little or no alcohol as possible in the first days after the vaccination. If you feel weak or tired after the vaccination, or have a fever or headache, it is also better to avoid alcohol. In this way, you protect your body from being further weakened and possible side effects of the covid vaccine from intensifying. However, the government or CDC has not made an official recommendation on this issue with alcohol and vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued some guidelines and recommendations that you can find on the CDC’s official website: “Interim Public Health Recommendations for Fully Vaccinated People”.
