What is Brazilian Lemonade?
Brazilian lemonade is a creamy, sweet lemonade made with lime juice rather than lemon juice. It is also sweetened with both sugar and also sweetened condensed milk. The sweetened condensed milk makes the lemonade thick and smooth, giving the drink a beautiful texture that is much creamier than any classic lemonade.
What is Brazilian Lemonade Made Of?
Brazilian lemonade is made with just a few basic ingredients. All Brazilian lemonades are made with essentially the same stuff. Here is what we use to make our easy Brazilian lemonade recipe:
- Lime Juice- Fresh squeezed lime juice will work best and have the best flavor. You can use bottled lime juice in a pinch but the drink won’t have quite as powerful of a taste.
- Lime Zest- Fresh lime zest really boosts the flavor of the lemonade. It also gives the drink a pretty, green speckled look.
- Water- Water makes up the bulk of the drink. Make sure it is nice and cold!
- Sugar- White sugar sweetens the Brazilian lemonade. It dissolves nicely into the water to make every sip perfectly sweet.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk- Sweetened condensed milk is the second sweetener in this drink however, it not only makes the lemonade sweet, it also makes it nice and thick. It is that creamy, frothy texture that really sets this limeade apart from other recipes.
You can see how these ingredients look a little different than other, more traditional limeades and lemonades that you may have made in the past. That is because Brazilian Lemonade is different. And, when we say it is different, we mean that it is better!
Do You Blend Whole Limes for Brazilian Lemonade?
There are a few ways to make Brazilian lemonade and we have tried them all. The classic way to make this drink is to use whole limes and pulse the limes in the blender along with all the other ingredients. We tried this method and found that blending the lime peels can make the drink a little bit bitter. This is especially true if you blend the limeade too much. All that lime peel pith is just no good.
Rather than blend the whole limes like many recipes do, we decided to just use pure lime juice and lime zest. Lime zest adds all those flavorful oils from the peel but without the bitterness.
We do still recommend using fresh squeezed lime juice as it has more flavor than bottled juice. Fresh squeezed juice will be closer to the classic Brazilian lemonade.

How to Make Brazilian Lemonade
We talked a little about how we do not blend whole limes to make our Brazilian lemonade. So how do we make our Brazilian lemonade recipe? It is so easy! Take a look:
- Add all of the ingredients to a blender.
- Puree everything together until the lemonade is frothy and thick.
- Pour the lemonade into glasses filled with ice then enjoy.
We still blend our Brazilian lemonade as this really is the best way to get the thick, foamy drink we love. Remember that the longer you blend, the frothier your lemonade will get!
What Does Brazilian Lemonade Taste Like?
Brazilian lemonade actually tastes more like a limeade. This is because it is made with limes! The drink has the perfect balance of sweet and sour. The sweetened condensed milk adds a rich, vanilla flavor that goes so well with the tangy, powerful limes. It is basically a dessert in a glass!
If this sounds like a lemonade that you want to try, we recommend grabbing your blender right now and making a big pitcher of Brazilian lemonade. We think you will really enjoy this refreshing, interesting and powerful drink.

Can I blend a whole lime?
You can blend whole limes. Limes have a thinner skin than lemons and the white pith (the part that is bitter) is much smaller on a lime. Even though the bitter portion of the lime is small, it is still strong. Blended limes will get more and more bitter the longer they sit, so be sure to enjoy your lime drink immediately after blending.
How do you keep lemonade from getting bitter?
There are a few ways to prevent lemonade from getting bitter. First, try not to use too much of the white part of the lemon peel, known as the pith. This part is very bitter and not tasty at all.
The next thing you can do is add a pinch of salt. Salt will actually remove bitterness from a drink and make it taste sweeter. The last tip is to drink your lemonade fresh. The longer homemade lemonade sits, the more bitter it gets.
Try not to let your lemonade sit too long for the sake of sweetness!
How many limes make a cup of lime juice?
You will need about 8 limes to make a cup of lime juice. This is about 2 pounds of limes. You may want to get out your citrus juicer to help with all those limes!
How much lime juice should you drink a day?
