Exciting Homemade Lemonade Recipes
Taking a simple drink recipe and livening it up a little bit is what we do! Putting a special twist on a drink makes it new and fun. It becomes a completely new drink with just a few tweaks. And that is exactly what we did with lemonade; tweaked it to be modern, delicious but still be yummy lemonade at the core.
"a completely new drink"

We decided to actually put two tasty twists into our lemonade. First, we wanted in incorporate blueberries. Second we wanted to use pink lemonade rather than plain, yellow lemonade. Let’s talk a little bit about the blueberries first.
Pink Lemonade With Blueberries
Adding fruit to lemonade is a great way to make it naturally sweeter and more flavorful. We opted to use blueberries as they are a true summer time fruit. Blueberries are usually in season at the beginning of the warm season, turning purple and then a deep blue on the bush. When blueberries are ripe, they are very juicy, soft and packed with fruity flavor.
Making Sweet, Fruity Simple Syrup
To capture the taste of ripe blueberries, we start our recipe by making a blueberry simple syrup. Sugar and water are boiled with blueberries until a thick syrup forms. The syrup is then strained through a fine mesh sieve and pressed into the sieve to really extract any juice.
The more juice and pulp that will go through that sieve, the better! All you want left in the strainer is the tougher blueberry skins. In the bowl below will be a pinkish, blueberry flavored syrup. Yum!

HOW TO MAKE BLUEBERRY PINK LEMONADE
Once you have made your blueberry simple syrup, it is time to make the lemonade! For the lemonade part of our drink, we use pink lemonade concentrate that you can find in the frozen section of your local grocery store.
Pink lemonade can be made pink in a few different ways. Most often, red dye has just been added to regular lemonade to dye it slightly pink.
Sometimes cranberry juice, grenadine syrup or strawberries are used to color the lemonade. If you are lucky enough to find pink lemonade colored with strawberries, definitely purchase that concentrate! The strawberries add color and a hint of flavor that goes wonderfully in this drink.
Of course, you can always make your own lemonade rather than use concentrate
(concentrate is just so quick and easy!). To make your own lemonade, follow these simple steps:
- Boil 1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of lemon juice and 6 cups of water.
- Boil until the sugar is dissolved. Stir occasionally.
- Let the mix cool and then add in the blueberry syrup!
- A drop of red dye will make it more pink!
You will be able to taste the difference in homemade pink lemonade instantly. It is unbelievably refreshing, sweet and a tiny bit sour. Pure perfection!
USING PINK LEMONADE BLUEBERRIES
If you want to get really ambitious, try using pink lemonade blueberries to make this blueberry pinke lemonade recipe. Pink lemonade blueberries are a type of berry that stay deep pink rather than turning blue. They are a type of highbush blueberries which means the blueberry shrub is tall and lush.
While pink lemonade blueberry bushes look just like regular tall and wide bushes, they bear fruit that is a deep pink. Pink lemonade blueberries are very sweet, a little floral and quite beautiful.
Many grocery stores carry pink lemonade blueberries but you can always grow your own! Plant a pink lemonade blueberry bush in full sun, acidic soil and give it extra water so you can have pink blueberries perfect for making lemonade forever!
When summer comes around, it might be a good idea to have a big, cold pitcher of this lemonade in your fridge all the time. The fresh fruity flavor and the pretty pinkish purple color is beautiful. It is pretty easy to make our pink lemonade blueberry mix but it looks quite fancy! You and all your summer guest are going to love it! Enjoy.
