What is a Watermelon?
Watermelon is a large fruit that grows on a vining, flowering plant. Watermelons typically have a thick green rind and a crunchy, juicy flesh.
The flesh of a watermelon can be red or golden in color. Most watermelons have black seeds but many variants have been genetically modified to be seedless.
Watermelon is delicious when eaten fresh. The green peel is removed and the seeds are also discarded, leaving behind the sweet, crisp, red center of the melon.
What are the benefits of eating a watermelon?
How healthy is watermelon? Watermelons are actually very healthy and nutritious (just another reason why you should love them!). Here are a few of the benefits of watermelon for you to think about:
- Help you stay hydrated- Watermelons are made of 92% water. Eating watermelon will help you stay hydrated and keep your body functioning properly.
- Vitamins and Minerals- Watermelons are loaded with vitamins and minerals including potassium, magnesium, vitamin C and vitamin A.
- Contains lycopene- Watermelons have a compound called lycopene which has been shown to help lower the risk of certain cancers. Lycopene has also been shown to help support a healthy heart, lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
- Reduce Inflammation- The antioxidants in watermelon can reduce inflammation and oxidative damage.
- Relieve muscle soreness- The amino acid called citrulline that is found in watermelons may improve exercise performance and reduce muscle soreness.
So many reasons why you should eat watermelon! Or, in our case, drink watermelon.
Is it OK to eat watermelon everyday?
Absolutely! You can eat watermelon daily without any serious side effects. Watermelon is a healthy, delicious fruit!
Of course, all fruits should be eaten in moderation. You don’t want your diet to be 100% watermelon, that’s for sure! Too much watermelon can raise your lycopene or potassium levels too high.
However, it takes a lot of watermelon to get to this point. Eat or drink a normal, reasonable amount and you will be just fine.
Is Watermelon High in Sugar?
Watermelon does have natural sugars which is why the fruit is just so sweet! However, watermelon is actually fairly low in sugar when compared to other fruits. One cup of watermelon has under 10 grams of sugar.
To put this into perspective, know that one cup of blueberries has 15 grams of sugar while one large banana has around 17 grams of sugar. Since watermelon is lower in sugar, it is generally safe for those with diabetes to eat in moderation. It is such a great, versatile fruit!

Watermelon Agua Fresca
Watermelon agua fresca is one of the most simple watermelon drinks you can make. It is essentially pure watermelon juice in a glass! Of course, our recipe uses a few extras to boost the flavor of the watermelon.
To make watermelon agua fresca, you need to blend watermelon, water, sugar and lime juice until smooth. Pour the watermelon puree through a sieve to make the juice extra smooth.
This delicious, hydrating juice will keep in the fridge for up to two days so drink it fast! That shouldn’t be much of a problem…
Watermelon Margarita Mocktail
Lime and watermelon go together so well which is why we created an incredible watermelon margarita mocktail. It has more flavor than any margarita you have ever tried.
The best part is that it is completely alcohol free. You can drink as many of these watermelon margaritas as you want!
Our watermelon margarita recipe is made with three simple ingredients: watermelon, lime juice and agave syrup. The agave sweetens the margarita while the lime juice adds a delicious tart taste that really makes the drink taste like a margarita.

We love turning classic cocktails into tasty mocktails. That is exactly what we did with this tasty Johnny Vegas drink.
We took the traditional Johnny Vegas shot and transformed it into a delicious, virgin drink recipe.
Of course, this drink is made with watermelon juice which helps it taste refreshing and cool. Redbull, cactus juice and a little lime are added to the rocks glass and mixed together.
