    Chamomile Tea

    What is Chamomile Tea?

Chamomile tea is made from dried flowers of the sweet chamomile plant. It is classified as an herbal tea and has a light, yellow color once brewed, the same color as the chamomile flower itself.

The correct chamomile pronunciation is “cam-o-meel”. If you are a lover of this delicious tea, you may also want to know how to say chamomile in Spanish- Manzanilla. Now you are ready to order a mug of chamomile tea in two languages!

What Does Chamomile Tea Taste Like?

Chamomile tea smells and tastes a bit like apples. In fact, the word chamomile comes from the Greek word for “ground apple”. Seems like a pretty fitting name!

Chamomile tea has a slight, natural sweetness but it is often served with a little honey or sugar to enhance the sweet flavor. The tea also has a very floral scent and taste which is natural in teas made from flowers.

Chamomile tea is not a very potent or strong tea. It is a soft, mild tea but still delicious enough to make it quite popular!

    Chamomile Tea Benefits

Teas are often used as herbal remedies for ailments. Chamomile tea certainly has a lot of it’s own benefits and nutritional perks! Here is a quick look at just a few of the ways a mug of chamomile tea can make you feel better.

    3. Chamomile has chemical compounds that reduce inflammation, helping with arthritis and even auto immune disorders.
    4. Does chamomile tea make you sleepy? Absolutely! This is one of the biggest benefits of chamomile tea and one that has helped make the tea so popular. A warm mug of chamomile tea can help you relax and fall asleep.
    5. Chamomile extract can be used to soothe skin irritation and eczema. Apply it topically to the skin to help calm inflammation. You can use chamomile seeds to make extract since they contain more oil than the flowers.

    How to Make Chamomile Tea

Now that you know a little bit about chamomile tea and what makes it so great, we want to tell you all about how to make the best chamomile tea possible.

    1. Add dried chamomile flowers to your tea infuser or paper tea bag. Use about 2 tablespoons of dried chamomile flowers for every 8 ounces of water (one mug)
    2. Place the homemade tea bag in a large mug.
    3. Bring 8 ounces of water to a boil. Once the water boils, immediately remove it from the stove and pour it into the mug, over the dried chamomile.
    4. Let the tea steep for 5 minutes.
    5. Remove the tea bag or tea infuser and discard.
    6. Enjoy your warm mug of fresh chamomile tea!

The keys to making a great cup of chamomile tea is to have freshly dried flowers and to let the tea steep. Freshly dried flowers have the most flavor as they lose their great taste the longer they sit. Dried chamomile tea that is a year old or more will not taste as potent.

Steeping the tea is also necessary. This allows the flavor of the chamomile flowers to infuse into the water. You can steep the tea for longer but it can get bitter if left to sit too long.

    Tips and Tricks

We have a few more quick pointers to help you make the best chamomile tea ever. Definitely read over these tips and tricks before you start brewing your tea.

    • Add 1 teaspoon of dried lavender buds to the tea bag with the chamomile flowers. Lavender chamomile tea is a beautiful, floral tasting tea that you are sure to adore. You can also try adding a tablespoon of lavender syrup to give the tea even more lavender taste.
    • Try growing and drying your own chamomile flowers. Chamomile is very easy to grow. The plants like full sun and do not require much maintenance or attention. Plant a few chamomile seeds and you will have chamomile tea on hand for years!
    • Turn your warm chamomile tea into iced tea in the summer. Iced chamomile tea is very refreshing and revitalizing on a hot summer day.
    • Save used chamomile tea bags in the fridge or freezer. Anytime you have a rash or skin flare up, put the cold chamomile tea bag directly on your skin for instant soothing properties.
